The Elnora Poultry Association closes its sixth annual show with judging by Olin Cullo of Atlanta. Heavy attendance and strong interest accompanied displays of barred rocks, white rocks, black langshans, and more, with awards spread across multiple farms including Elnora and Plainville.
The troop schedules a Tuesday night meeting in five weeks with a special session to reorganize and seat officers. The three month front has been extended three weeks. all boys planning to participate next season are urged to attend this regular rendezvous and rally.
Mrs Esther Bair Carpenter 22 died in this city last Tuesday from tuberculosis of the larynx at her mother Mrs Reason Bair s home. She was born Sept 28 1894 and married Roy Carpenter Feb 22 1914 producing one child Autumn Opal who died Sept 29 1916. Funeral held at U B church with Rev Ernest Roberts. burial at Walnut Hill.
The Christian churches of Daviess county met in Washington at the Christian church yesterday. Morning sessions involved all official boards and an address by District Evangelist L. H. Graham. Afternoon sessions focused on women's work led by Mrs. Dema Ocsher of Vincennes, Indiana. A Washington church choir sang in the evening for Rev. F. L. E hat city, delivering a sermon on the Christian Church.
The Ladies Club gathering featured a dining pod display and Christmas gifts. Florence Dunham and Myrtle Hindman of Indianapolis attended. Refreshments were served as the evening included games and a renewal of youth sentiment.
A three months old child of Logan Dant a farmer living south of here died suddenly Monday morning. The infant was not found until about four o clock and was breathing its last. Coroner Poin Dexter held an inquest finding death due to malignant cause. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning at St Joseph Scout Master church.
Edward L. Cox died at his east Odon home after a prolonged illness. Born March 7 1872 in Martin County he was 45. He married Edith Fields January 31 1901 and they had seven children four of whom survive. Survivors include Gusta Mildred Everett and Ruth. Burial followed at Walnut Hill cemetery with pastors A C Trusty and Charles Coleman presiding.
Mervin F. Boyd of Plainville won multiple premiums at the Mitchell poultry show with his Black Langshaw flock. He took first pen, first and second pen, first cockerel, and first through fourth pullets plus a silver cup for his pen, highlighting Lawrence County's performance compared to Daviess County.

At the first county board meeting Oscar Wallick was elected secretary and L S Horrail president. Arthur Rogers of Washington was named county attorney. The board approved deposits among banks based on a 200000 balance, and reappointed or appointed several miners board and school fund appraisers. Chattin reported on gravel roads with a year end balance and detailed expenditures and upcoming projects. District deputies were listed for ten areas. Continued on Page 2.
Miss Florence Henderson and Herschel Ledgerwood united in marriage last Saturday at two o'clock at the bride’s parents home five miles southeast of Odon. Rev. W. Eathern of the U B church of Scotland officiated with Ray Hassec and Miss Elpha Henderson as attendants. A luncheon followed and the newlyweds will reside two and a half miles southeast of Scotland.
A Sunday school class of a dozen twelve year olds invested five cents each in a nickel contest. Investments ranged from 5 cents to 7.70 dollars with Emerson Freeman netting 7.95 after broom corn seed profits. Robert Ramsey reinvested potato proceeds and gained 535 dollars. Next Sunday they reveal method and results.
The parents thank friends and neighbors for their helping hand through the death of their darling baby Mik.
The Martin County farmers will hold a Farmers Institute in Burns City on Wednesday January 17. An all day program features talks by C B Benjamin of Grown Point on Dairying and general farming factors and by Mrs Esther B Givens of Freedom Indiana on Woman's Handicraft in the Home and Rights of a Country Child. The Burns City band will provide music and a large crowd is expected.
The United Drugio Rexall Stores began in 1903 with 40 members 160000 capital 50000 square feet and 14 employees. Now it reports 8000 members 52000000 capital 681000 square feet of manufacturing and shipping space 415000 for warehouses 750000 for retail stores and about 40 million dollars in annual business with 8000 employees. The Odon Rexall store is keeping pace.
A ministerial council meeting of the Indiana conference of the United Brethren church closed its annual gathering at Plainville. Attendees represented southern Indiana with about 14,000 members. Dr. Snyder of New Alban predicted Thursday night, with the conference quartet supplying the music. The Rev. N. Fouts preached at the closing session Friday night.
Infant of Mr and Mrs Walter Malone died at Isaac Boyds home near Cornettsville from pneumonia and fever. Funeral services and burial were held at New Bethel Thursday.
