Farmers Federation meeting engaging crowd in Madison township

A large audience attended the Farmers Federations gathering at the Christian church basement in Madison township. Speakers included Mr Vanhouk and county president Lew Harris, with a program of music readings and refreshments for nearly 200 attendees. The drive for members continues as the organization expands across the county.

The Parent Teachers Club meets next Thursday at Hos assembly hall with junior citizens providing program items. Bloomfield game notes show our team defeating Bloomfield 32 to 23 with Cooper and Crane leading scorers and comments on educational week activities at O H S including radio demonstration and speeches on voting and school building needs. Raglesville residents hosted and visited kin throughout the week. Bert Stringer and Claud Thomas of Washington were in town on Wednesday. Flora Flynn stayed with Mrs. Pruett, and Marie Burris visited relatives in Odon. A revival began Sunday night at the M E church.

Barn Fire Destroys Hasting Barn Near City Limits

A barn belonging to John Hasting about three miles northwest of the city burned down around midnight Tuesday. Two cows perished, and about eight hundred bushels of corn, hay, harness and fanning tools were lost. Firemen arrived too late as the structure was nearly collapsed. Origin of the blaze unknown. Loss partly covered by insurance.

Ramsey farmer marks 55th birthday with village feast

Elmer Ramsey of two miles southeast of town celebrated his fifty fifth birthday last Sunday. Neighbors and friends over fifty gathered at his home for a large dinner and an impromptu program of readings songs and music. Guests included Elmer Flinn family Ruby Stewart of Linton and Chas Birdsell family of Lyons.

Diphtheria Claims Boy Charles Evans at Eight

Charles Evans youngest son of Mr and Mrs Elmer Evans died last Sunday from diphtheria after a three week illness. He leaves his parents two sisters and a brother. The funeral was Monday at the residence and he was buried in Plainville cemetery with community sympathy.

PIRE DAMAGES HOTEL

The Odon Hotel owned by H T Herndon was damaged by fire Tuesday afternoon around four o'clock when flames spread to the roof and burned roof shingles. The fire department responded quickly, extinguishing the blaze within minutes. Insurance covered the damage. Teddy Bears at the Rexall Store.

Death of Mrs. Barzilla Slaven Aged 72 At Home

Barzilla Slaven of Tennessee born September 1850 died December 9 at age 72 from heart failure at her son James’s home west of the city. Survived by two sisters Peggy and Ferbe, two brothers John and Emil, three sons Absalom James Emanuel and two daughters Tabitha Elizabeth, and forty seven grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren. Funeral from the residence Monday at two with Rev. R. T. Gwyn officiating. burial at Walout Hill cemetery.

Former Odon Boy Injured In Hunting Accident

Joe Correll, son of Mr and Mrs Dean Correll formerly of this city, was seriously injured last Thursday when a shotgun discharged tearing off his right hand and badly injuring his left hand and arm. He and his father are in Hannibal Missouri where the accident occurred. The boy was handling the gun while with friends preparing to hunt and was struck by the discharge. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment and doctors believe the left hand and arm may be saved. The Corrells left this city about three years ago. Mrs D Gantz, Mrs J Ralph Gantz, Miss Helen Gantz and Chas Pate drove to Linton Friday.
