Independents Defeat Woodmen In Rush Lead Game

The Odon Independents defeated the Loogootee Woodmen 44 to 17 in a fast contest at Woodmen hall Loogootee Sunday afternoon. The Independents showed speed and skill, outclassing the Woodmen throughout. They invite other amateur teams to contact for future games.

O. H. S. Students Honor Miss Buckingham and Local Hoop Night

O. H. S. students from all classes gathered at Shively's to honor Miss Buckingham for her work and success. Miss Brown from Puckley replaces Buckingham. A basketball doubleheader at Wool Park featured Gdon H. S. vs Longe with a loud crowd and strong play by Burns City and Loogootee. First and second teams travel to Newberry Friday for a double header.

Homer Cunningham launches a new barber shop in the Grand Hotel and began business Wednesday. He previously co owned the Spring Street shop and recently sold it to William Miller.

Surprise Shower at Hobson Home Delights Friends

A large group of Rev. and Mrs. J. T. Hobson’s friends gathered Monday afternoon for a surprise shower. The guests presented many useful gifts and the crowd enjoyed a pleasant afternoon together.

Knights of Pythias Hold Gala Roll Call Banquet

The Knights of Pythias lodge in the city held its annual roll call meeting at the Main St hall last Monday with about 75 members attending. The roast goat banquet featured a long table feast of goat and beef, oysters, dressing, fruit, coffee, and mince pie followed by an address on Pythianism by Rev. A. C. Trusty and performances by members, all accompanied by U. B. Orchestra.

Creamery receipts boost local farmers via butterfat sales

G. W. Henderson, Wathey Creamery local manager, reports paying out nearly $12,000 for cream since May 1. That equals about 50,000 pounds of butterfat or around 150,000 gallons of cream bought at the Odon station in seven months. Cream checks support current expenses and many patrons grow bank balances while merchants reward them with merchandise. Henderson foresees higher butterfat prices this winter and stronger local production.

Smith Wins Suit Over County Superintendent

Julius Smith wins a circuit court suit against A. O. Fulkerson, county superintendent, after testimony was offered and Fulkerson rested. Special Judge Hastings mildly reprimands the defendant for not aiding the plaintiff to qualify for the office, if Smith was unqualified. Fulkerson had approved Smith's claims as allowed by the county commissioners.

Southwestern Poultry Show Premium List Printed in Plainville

The Southwestern Poultry Association completed printing its second annual Premium List last Monday for the Plainville show set for December 20 to 24. The 30 page green bound booklet lists premiums, rules, and show advertisements. Copies may be obtained from QO. MM. Heldt.
