A 1906 essay defines individualism as private ownership with competition and socialism as state ownership of all production. It argues both sides have sincere followers and notes ethics, religious influence, and the dangers and benefits of competition, monopolies, and public utilities in shaping a just society.
Agreement reached by packers and government officials will require labels on all meat cans after October 1 listing the constituents of the product. The labels aim to satisfy the pure food law effective January 1, though meat inspection law does not mandate labeling.

Josie McGee age thirteen, youngest child of W W McGee, died Saturday after a week of illness. Hazel, an older sister, was near death but not told yet. Funeral held at Bellview church with Rev O Dorsey presiding. Burial at Walput Hill cemetery.
Mary Marian Laughlin died at Salisbury aged two years and one month. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Scotland with Elder C H Buchanan officiating and burial in the nearby cemetery.
August 15 the dove hunting ban is raised and Sept 1 allows duck hunting. From Oct 1 to Nov 10 coarse restrictions close the season to rabbits and quail to prevent misuse. Quail and prairie chicken season then opens November 10 with renewed hunting activity anticipated.
