The poem extols scientific and artistic progress as a peaceful conqueror uniting mankind. It claims factories, railways, ships, and wealth as blessings to birth, transforming toil into noble aims. It envisions a new era where progress uplifts, enlightens, and enriches all humanity.
The joint preliminary teachers institute for Madison Elmore and Van Buren townships gathered all 31 township teachers under Superintendent McHenry with support from Odon and Elnora school officials. Talks by Lew S Core and Prin Wiley Hitchcock emphasized teacher roles and patron cooperation, with officers named for each township for the coming year.
Mary May Williams born August 15 1872 died August 30 1906 age 34 years 15 days. She married Wm R Williams March 25 1890 and had four children. She belonged to the U B church. Funeral at Mt Nebo six miles north Friday afternoon conducted by Bid C H Budman. Buried in Totermenot Chandler cemetery.
A Sunday storm struck P. M. Stone's barn in Scotland igniting flames and instantly killing three of four horses inside while one was rescued stunned. Grain and harness burned. buggies and carriage survived. The barn was large and well built. house saved with effort. Loss estimated at 31500. insurance does not cover the horses.
A countryman registered at an Indianapolis hotel and was asked if he planned to stay as a guest. When asked if he was European or American he replied with emphasis that he is American born and raised in Daviess County, asking if he looks like a foreigner.

A proposal to abandon the Teachers Association was not carried. this was the final institute under Superintendent Mc Henry.
Field available for breaking to produce wheat. Corn is plentiful and suitable for feeding horses or hogs. Sale by gauge or weight in wagon load lots. September 21.
The Ft Wayne News editorial asserts Indiana voters have decided to back Roosevelt and the current reform administration. They claim voters act in self interest, praising the national leadership and a government that curbs its own supporters when they err.
Dr. C. O. Cleammer, a dentist practicing in Odon, wed Miss Gertrude Gemon in Grindley, Illinois on Wednesday. He will return to Odon soon with his bride, and well wishes are offered for their long, prosperous life together.
Ray Ross Lacy of Indianapolis wed Pearl Elizabeth Straw of this place Tuesday afternoon in Washington. The groom is a Cole Manufacturing Company employee and son of Mrs. Mary A. Lacy of Indianapolis, formerly local. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Rh. B. Dunlap and noted as an estimable young woman.
