Recitation warns about alcohol with a sequence of glass numbers describing how each step leads to harm. It cautions that drinking ruins youth, wrecks manhood, breaks friendships, and can wreck a family, urging youths to grow up brave and avoid alcohol.
Minnie Ynman Waggoner born February 18 1884 died August 19 1906 at Indian Springs aged 22 years 5 months 27 days. She married George Waggoner April 12 1908. Survived by father five brothers two sisters and husband. Funeral by Eldor C H Buchanan at Salem church Martin County on Monday at three. Burial in nearby cemetery.
The Indiana State Fair will feature daily airship flights by Leo Stevens of New York during the September week. Stevens claims prior patents and builds the ship he pilots, with exhibitions and talks on serial navigation scheduled alongside the fair’s events.
The Woodmen log-rolling show at Washington last week lost money but provided enjoyment. Rainy days and the Old Settlers event on Thursday to Saturday kept crowds small. A group from Odos traveled Thursday with the Southern Indians Band. The celebration will move to Vincennes next year.
The twenty first annual Old Settlers picnic in Odon featured speeches by John Spencer Ezra Mattingly and others despite rain and lower attendance. A large premium list rewarded many children and women with toys, clothing, and keepsakes while the Woodmen logrolling faced weather challenges and a fight on the final day.
Louis Ludlow in the Terre Haute Star states that a circulated rumor falsely alleging Congressman Chaney aided the Idaho labor fight and the Couer d Alene riots is unfounded. He explains Chaney never visited Idaho and only prepared a statement for a national investigation, not inciting or suppressing riots.
In a jumping contest seven best entries qualified for three jumps each. Milo Aishe from Odon received the honor for outstanding effort. F G Lutes listed as transient spectacle dealer awarded a prize of gold frame spectacles for the best looking maid or widow aged between forty five and sixty. Mrs Mary Lutes of Terre Haute recognized in related notes.
State Fair management fixed Monday September 10 as Old Soldier's and Children's Day. Free admission for all old soldiers, school children under 15, and teachers in charge of pupils. The opening day program is complete and interesting. excursion tickets from Indiana points run Sept 8–14 for return to Sept 17.
The Nugent family reunion gathered about 400 people at the old Charles Nugent farm in Clinton Falls. Rev. Benson led a prayer and music opened the program, Uncle Jack Nugent spoke, dinner followed, Elder Aibart spoke, and Rev. Collins dismissed. The Bainbridge Orchestra provided music as relatives from Odon Elnora Nashville and other towns reconnected.
A Tombstone saloonkeeper promotes Temple Bar with bold frankness claiming honesty while admitting he profits from alcohol. An advertising card warns of social harms and mocks temperance aims, listing consequences from drunkards to ruin of families, ending with a defiant pledge of honest business.
A letter from Isaac Doyles, music publisher, praises The Journal of Indianapolis for advertising Chromatic Two Step. He reports many orders and encloses another ad, expressing confidence in the paper as a favorable outlet for advertisers.
A reflective poem urges explicit affection and support for friends and kin. It endorses expressing love, praising song, joining prayers, sharing tears, and celebrating others happiness to strengthen bonds and moral health. The verse counsels communal empathy across joy and sorrow.
The Connecticut Fire Insurance Co. of Hartford via agent Oliver O Laughlin adjusted George Corrells house loss after a blaze on August 12. The four day adjustment sets the payout at 31000.

During the Friday night storm lightning struck T. B. Herrall's house on the east end. Weather boarding and plastering were torn, but the structure suffered little damage. The family received a lively shock but no injuries were reported.
A Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern passenger train derailed after hitting an open switch at Seymour on Tuesday morning. The crash also involved a rock train engine. five people were badly injured and several others suffered minor injuries.
