Fred S. Boyd Dead After Long Illness in West Odon
Fred Shaffer Boyd, longtime West Odon resident and former public school teacher for 21 years, died Wednesday of dropsy and related illnesses. He leaves a wife Jane Sears, eight children born in 1875 with three predeceased, four daughters, one son, and three brothers. Survived by wife, children, brothers. funeral at Good Hope Church conducted by Rev. B J Julius and Rev. Thom. Masonic lodge oversaw burial at Walnut Hill.

A large crowd traveled by auto from Elnora to boost the El nora chautauqua. A decorated parade with a fife and drum corps led by Rev. Shake drew Odon residents with an invitation to attend the chautauqua. After the address, literature and programs were distributed, then boosters headed to the next town.

Sheriff Harmon III Poisoned and Recovering
County Sheriff George W. Harmon is recovering from ptomaine poisoning suffered since last Thursday. His condition was critical Friday and Saturday. He ate dinner at an Evansville restaurant before returning home. His son Walter temporarily handles duties as the sheriff remains ill and confined to bed.

Aged Lady Breaks Arm After Fall at Sipes Home
Mrs. Martha Bandy, eighty three, sustained a broken arm last Friday at the home of Mr and Mrs Grant Sipes four miles east of the city. She fell while standing in a room and struck her shoulder on a table. Dr Hayes of Burns City dressed the injury and prognosis notes very slow recovery due to advanced age.

Sommers Family Reunion Draws Large Turnout in Park
The fourth annual Sommers reunion was held in the city park with about 125 relatives attending from near and far. A noon meal featured a large cake marked 4th annual reunion Summers family, followed by a formal program and time for visiting. Preparations included a long table by the speakers stand and a hearty, well received dinner. Several distant relatives listed include Samuel A. Sommers Terra Sommers and many Goshorn, Harris, and Rentchler families from Clay City Bowling Green and Jasonville among others. The date and place of the next gathering have not been decided.

The 1880s murder of Mary Seneff is revived by the finding that Ellen Ann Athey, the central figure in Ohio’s most sensational case, is still living. Athey, now 64, has been in prison since 1881 and in the insane asylum for 31 years, with the case recalling the notorious May 1880 murder near Dover.

Golden Wedding Celebration for Rev and Mrs S H Dyer
Last Sunday marked the sixtieth anniversary of Rev and Mrs S H Dyer who live south of Elnora. They were married after the Civil War and have eight living children, seventeen grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. About 160 relatives and friends attended, with a large noon dinner and photographs taken of the crowd and family. Rev Dyer is 69 and Mrs Dyer 74.
