Old Settlers Open With Fine Shape For Big Meeting

The Old Settlers event opened with stands, rides, and displays in place. E T Laughlin delivered the opening address with M S Hastings of Washington following. A full program and lively music from the Linton band and Tennessee Warblers promise two days of strong attractions.

Old Settlers Picnic at City Park Draws Crowds

City Park hosts Old Settlers with a circus including animals and clowns plus novelty acts. Flint-Kyle Telephone Co installs on site telephone service. Hotels fill, restaurants bustle as crowds return for the weekend program featuring band concerts, a free picture show, and Hon. Jno. L. Kern as Saturday speaker. Rain midweek improved conditions for the big event.

Worthington Big Concert Delights Thousands At Fair Grounds

The Con solidated Bands parade and concert in a Grove at the Worthington fair grounds drew thousands. Directed by Fred Jewell the White Band delivered a strong performance. A large banquet followed, then a city parade through principal streets before the group returned home around 8 30 PM after a detour caused by a bridge closure.

United Brethren Meet in New Albany for 87th Indiana Conference

The eighty seventh annual meet ing of the Indiana conference of the United Brethren church will convene at New Albany on Tuesday August 24 for a five day session. About 200 ministers and delegates are expected. Bishop G M Matthews of Dayton Ohio will preside and notable speakers include Dr C T Deever Dr E S Shumaker Dr W R Funk and others. The gathering ends August 29 with services at Greenwood Park including a morning sermon and a Sunday school anniversary.

Public notice for Starples milker at Cloverdale Dairy

A new Starples milker will be installed on the J. F. Thompson farm six miles east not west of Odon on the first of the month. After installation visitors will be welcome any day except Sunday.

Madison teachers chosen for coming term

Trustee R. D. Mcarr of Madison township names the teaching staff for the new term. The list includes Bricker Ava Ledgerwood, Kent Britta Ketchem, Herron Lora Pershing, Good Hope Henry Sipes, Bunkum Clarence McCoy, Wallick P. M. Laughlin, McCarter Cline Freed, Willow Lick Sherman Stickles, Garten Rena Dearmin, and Taylor Fannie Asdell. School starts in September with date to be announced.

Cloverdale Dairy Farm installs new milking machine

J. F. Thompson, owner of the Cloverdale Dairy Farm northeast of the city, installs a Sharples milking machine to boost efficiency and quality of dairy products. The machine will be in place at the start of the month and visitors are welcome to view it on any day except Sunday.

Magician Fred Hurd Delights Royal Theater Crowd

Magician Fred Hurd thrilled a large Royal theater audience last Monday night as part of the regular program. Assisted by Madame Hurd, he amazed patrons with feats of legerdemain, though a large advertising box kite could not be flown due to light wind. He departed for Bedford Wednesday to perform at the opera house for the rest of the week.

Thirteen Year Old Fatality After Mule Accident

Lester, thirteen, son of Stanton Barber trustee in Veale township, died after a mule bucked and dragged him when his feet tangled in the harness. He rode to fetch a tree, disappeared into a hollow, and reappeared charging fences. He was unconscious when found and died at 5 pm from a fractured skull per coroner Dr. O E Lett verdict.

Boy Injured in Runaway at Montgomery

Earl Doyle twelve year old son of Mrs John Dovie was hurt in a runaway buggy at Montgomery Sunday morning. The single tree detached causing the horse to bolt and strike a telephone pole. Doyle suffered a dislocated left elbow and minor injuries otherwise.

Cubs Routed by Elnora Braves 19 to 0 in Sunday Game

The Golon Cubs suffered their second loss to the Elnora Braves as the visitors won 19 to 0 at Elnora. Ledgerwood and McCullian pitched for Golon but received little defensive help amid numerous errors and bonehead plays.

Hayes Family Reunion at City Park Highlights

A Hayes family reunion was held in the city park on Sunday with dinner and supper for twenty six attendees. Out of town visitors included Gid Hayes and his Cody Wyoming family, along with Palmer Dyal and James Evans and their families from Van Buren township.

Miss Minnie Barker Dies in California of Tuberculosis

Word arrives of the death of Miss Minnie Barker in California where she went for health reasons about a year ago. She died Friday from tuberculosis. Miss Barker formerly lived in Greene County and was about thirty.
