A twenty dollar bill was found at the First National Bank in Linton last Tuesday, with similar sightings in Terre Haute Vincennes and other towns. The bills are described as “tones” and “fives” with 20s replacing the original numbers. Authorities urge careful sorting and watching for counterfeit notes.
The Old Settlers gathering opens with medium attendance as grounds and stands are finished for big crowds. Washington Boosters arrive on the 12 45 train, welcomed by band and business leaders, and the “keys to the city” are presented to the county seat president. Word came Wednesday night of the sudden death of Frank Hannah of Sherwin Kansas. He was a son in law of Geo Wackler of Eaglesville and well known locally. Death followed a heart condition he had suffered for some time. He leaves a wife a son two brothers and a sister and many relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
The St Atkinson Monument Co of Champaign Illinois has erected a large cross monument with a life size Blessed Savior in a Catholic cemetery southwest of Thomasboro. A local expert praised the sculpture noting its remarkable expression and proportions surpassing many works. Designed and sculpted by Ira Correll, the piece reflects Correll & Burrell monumental works of Ogden and honors local craftsmanship.
Marion County coroner investigates the death of Elijah H Tomey found dying at the foot of a stairway in his daughter’s home. Family believes foul play. the pensioner had not cashed a pension check and was found with only 1 50 after earlier carrying about 47.
Rain slows farming as little wheat plowing gets done. Miss Nora Huff riding with her family near a railroad crossing was jolted when a car driven by Finn Cooper approached. The horse bolted and overturned the buggy, ejecting all occupants except Mr. Fox of Mitchell. Mrs Huff and Nora were uninjured. Hazel had minor scratches.
The Oder White Sox lost 9 to 4 at Jasonville on Sunday. Sears and Garten were the batteries for Odon while Mayo and Littlejohn paired for Jasonville. Odon collected 10 hits to Jasonville’s 8. Sears struck out 2 and Mayo 5.
Mrs Mary Waldron and Mrs EB C Walser with children from Linton are visiting relatives here in town.
