Heavy rain this week pleased farmers as it nearly assures the corn and coon crop while late potatoes and melons rise in price. Pastures recover, wheat falls to fall-seeding, and Australian wheat disease prompts cautious planting in coming weeks. Clover looks strong and yields vary for oats.
Florence McKee ten year old daughter of Otis and Mrs McKee of Elmore township died at home last Sunday evening around seven Tyripoid fever claimed her life despite efforts. Survived by father mother and a younger brother and many friends. Funeral from Plainville Christian church Tuesday at 3 00 pm with Rev Spencer in charge. Burial in Plainville cemetery.
A band concert will be held on the streets of Odon next Wednesday night. A good program of popular and standard music will be played and everyone is invited to drive into the city to hear the music. Stores will stay open after the concert. Concert begins at 8 30.

One week from today the big tent will rise for Odon's fourth annual Chautauqua. Officials forecast the largest crowds in five days of entertainment with a diverse, strong program. Season tickets cost 1.50 for adults and 75 cents for youths plus tax, and can be bought through local committee members.

Benj Sears of this city was seriously bruised when an unattended delivery truck rolled down the grade at the mill. He was wiring near the foot of the grade and did not see the car coming. He was taken home for medical care and is recovering.

B. J. Smiley 63 veteran horse and mule commission man died after a mule kicked him in a Watertown hotel. He had 40 years in the business and led a major Indianapolis firm before moving to Omaha. Survived by wife, three sons Victor Warren Smiley and Wallace J Smiley, two daughters Mrs Tovey and Mrs Cox. Body to be shipped to Omaha. funeral Saturday at 2 30 p m Dodder's undertaking.
Harry Kohlman has been discharged and is home after overseas service.
The Carlison family held its annual reunion Sunday at L. F. E. Ramsey's southeast of the city. A large turnout enjoyed a noon dinner and an afternoon of social visiting. Distanced relatives included S. J. Cullison and family of Jasonville and others from Worthington Bloomfield Koleen Hobbieville Lipton Terre Haute New Palestine and Terre Haute areas.
