Friday night a banquet for the local troop celebrated Scouting with decorations, music, a recitation, and addresses by J B Stotts and E T Laughlin. About 80 people heard talks on Boy Scout work and the need to curb cigarette sales to boys as finances allow future gatherings.
Julian Byrer and Ruby Faith were married at five o'clock Saturday evening July 23 at the home of A M Williams in Van Buren Township officiated by A M Williams. The bride is daughter of Thomas Faith and Mrs Faith of four miles south of the city. The groom is son of Frank Byrer of Van Buren Township. They plan to live on a farm in the township.
A telegram from H H Crooke reports B J Smiley formerly of this city died in Watertown South Carolina on Wednesday. Funeral services will be in Omaha Nebraska. He was a widely known stockman and horse buyer with deep ties to local business circles and many friends. Canning acid for sale at the Rexall Store next to the Post Office.
Worthington residents heard visitors from Burns City Canton and Indianapolis over the weekend. Local notices include sales of Duroc sows, seed offers at Rexall Store, and a job ad for a Whitmer Medicine Wagon operator in Daviess County. Schools announce J. K. McCarter as superintendent as the community stays active.
Local Chautauqua makers debate whether lectures or entertainment offer the week’s best attractions. Highlights include Edmund Hinshaw and Cyrus Nusbaum talks, Hugh Anderson Quintette, Booth Tarkington drama The Country Cousin, Emerson Winters Co, The Floyds, Miss Fisher Shipp, Rudolph’s Swiss Entertainers, and Bland’s All-American Orchestra. City officials return with a new Stewart one ton fire truck.

Lee Wadsworth and family visited Peter Wadsworth Sr east of here. Dant family west of St Joseph church visited Emerson Sims west of Odon Sunday. Mrs Pate and wife were guests of Eugene Strange near Bramble Sunday. Mrs Herman Beasley east of here is on the sick list. Mary Myers and Mabel Keck returned to Evansville after a week with relatives here. Charlotte Mitchell returned to Indianapolis after a week with her father east of here. Wirtzel Rosenberry returned from ten months overseas in France. Freeda Myers spent Sunday with Mary Garten. Pansy Dyal is in from Indianapolis for the week. John Beasley purchased a new Ford Saturday. A N Singleton and family spent Sunday at Odon with their daughter Mrs Grover Swayze. James Dyal returned from Hot Springs Arkansas with his bride and is visiting his parents. Art Dyal and Paul Wadsworth came from Washington for a visit with AN Singleton's grandparents.
Mrs Jess Carr visited her parents Mr and Mrs Andy Otry in Green County on Tuesday. Nora Connell and children Leland and Bernice spent Tuesday with Mrs Paul McCarter of Farlen. Abe McNabb and family of Linton were here Sunday evening. Rev and Mrs Mr P Herron and Mr and Mrs Wm Kinneman visited Walter Herron Sunday. Miss Margaret Brock of Montgomery returned home Sunday after visiting her sister Mrs Aldo York. A good turnout at Union chapel old people's meeting with Rev M P Herron speaking on Christian Fellowship. Ma and Mrs Arthur Phipps and Mrs Jane Baile of Odon visited Ernest Alford and family Sunday. Ray York and Sven Connell attended teachers' exam in Washington Saturday. Mrs Margaret Cunningham spent Tuesday with Mrs Ed McElroy. Aldo Chambers, just returned from France, spent the end of the week with his father S S Chambers.
Mr and Mrs James Dyal visit and honeymoon at Stuttgart sighting friends. They wed July 17 in Stuttgart Arkansas at the bride Bessie Thielman's home. The Stuttgart Record highlights the bride as eldest child of L H Thielman, a respected local family. Dyal, recently overseas, is a promising lawyer. They plan to move to Seattle after a few weeks.
Dr and Mrs Ira E Bowman departed Wednesday for Rochester Minnesota where Mrs Bowman will undergo an operation at the Mayo Institute.
