Governor Joseph W. Folk urged Missouri retail merchants to favor local advertising at the Jefferson City convention on July 18. He denounced mail order and promoted supporting town papers to grow cities and country towns, arguing honest business benefits from public scrutiny.
E O'Dell secured the school addition contract and started work two hours after notification. Excavation is complete and lumber delivery may delay progress due to scarce materials. The First National Bank of Don won the bond sale with 131 premium.
Grace M Kinnaman aged 23 1 16 died at home southeast of Bellview church from consumption. She was the eldest child of Mr and Mrs Anderson Kinnaman survived by father mother one brother and three sisters. Funeral by Rev C H Buchanan at Bellview and burial Walnut Hill cemetery. David Riggins born November 24, 1824 in Lawrence County Indiana died July 26, 1906 at age 81. He married Arrena Owens in 1846 and Abigail Hastings in 1897, with eight children and many grandchildren. He was buried at Kilgore cemetery following services at Andrew Hastings home conducted by C. H. Buchanan and Rev. Thos. Wadsworth.
Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern shops in Washington closed Saturday evening due to boiler makers strike and labor shortages. About 700 workers lose jobs. Company says operations can pause for weeks and that Chillicothe Ohio shop work is not essential.
The B. & O. Southwestern Railway will start building the switch to a new automobile factory at Washington. Several car loads of Jurober are on site and twenty car loads of brick have been sent from Chicago. Window and door frames for the factory are completed.
Joseph McCoy aged about fifty lived west of Owenaville and died after severe chigre bites and poison vine exposure. While berrying early, dew increased susceptibility to the poison which broke out and poisoned his system, causing his death in great agony. Washington Democrat.
A Wednesday Mitchell street meeting escalated when a prohibition speaker accused town Marshal Cheek of taking bribes. Cheek pulled the speaker from a box and, after a tense exchange, released him amid crowd cheers. Prohibitionist Newlin framed the incident as officials abusing power.
A Washington Democrat urges a clean November election in Daviess County with no voter debauchery by whisky or money. The piece calls for moral stature from all county officials, pastors, and teachers, and rejects corruption or impurity in electors, asserting officials must meet high civic virtue.
