Call Meeting Of Republican Central Committee At Courthouse

The Republican Central Committee meets at the courthouse on Saturday, April 37, at 1 30 pm per county chairman George Godwin. Elmer E Hastings will explain the new registration and corrupt practices acts, with pamphlets distributed. Thirty four registration clerks will be appointed, poll books distributed, and other campaign matters discussed. All precinct committeemen are urged to attend following General Grant's birthday anniversary.

Severe hail storm and tornado toll reported nearby

A Sunday night hail and electrical storm swept Daviess County around 8 o'clock causing little damage locally. Farther north near Terre Bonne in Newton County a tornado struck Morocco with ten fatalities and homes destroyed.

Rare Blue Night Heron Shot On Rankin Farm

Charles Stoner on the Rankin farm south of town killed a rare bird described as a Great Blue Night Heron. The creature measured three feet ten inches from tip to tip and thirty three inches toe to beak, with a dark blue back and cream-colored feathers.

Died In School House Near Epsom At 77

Jonathan Cooper, 77, traveling from Kentucky with his son to Terre Haute, died overnight at Pleasant Grove school house near Epsom. An inquest found death from natural causes. Burial followed at Walnut Hill. son not present at interment.

Exciting Runaway Involving Local Ladies’ Horse

A horse driven by three young women from the Pershing family bolted on Main Street near Harmon and Fuller blacksmith shop Saturday afternoon. The coachman’s lines broke and one rider was thrown from the buggy but uninjured. The horse ran through Ol O’Dell’s yard to J B Wilson’s, lines wrapped around a wheel, stopping the animal. The buggy only lightly damaged and all occupants remained unharmed.

Odon High School Transfers Highlight Teacher Shortage

Six of thirteen Oton High graduates moved to Odon for high school access as Madison township pupils shift between districts. Madison township sent 67 pupils to Odon with 35 to high school and 32 to grades. There are 26 common school teachers and nine high school graduates seeking jobs, but only ten positions. A neighboring district has eight teachers within walking distance. A teachers agency cites 227 high school teachers seeking work. sample applicant is a 30 year old Methodist trained in Indiana University State Normal and Harvard with 10 years’ experience and a Indiana license. Salary listed as sixty dollars per month.

Amanda Bowman and Isaac Kinder Married in Martin County

A marriage license was granted Monday morning to Isaac Newton Kinder a 55 year old farmer near Indian Springs Martin county and Amanda Jane Bowman 41 of Elnora. This is his second marriage and her third. She lost her second husband September 24 1910 in an accident on the E T A railroad a week after they had been married.

Epsom High School Plans May 8 Graduation

The Epsom high school will hold commencement in the school auditorium Friday evening May 8. The two graduates are Miss Mayme B Wade and William T O'Brien. W P Dearing of Oakland City College will deliver the graduation address. Prof Albert Mack, in charge, earns praise for the year's improvements.

Local business men begin the season by applying a first coat of oil to main streets. The oil proved successful last season, reducing dust and street dirt despite initial pedestrian dissatisfaction. A second coat and oil-water mix are planned for better coverage.

Sarah H. Lee of Washington township sues for divorce from David R. Lee after 38 years of marriage. Married January 29, 1874 and separated in 1905. They have five children all over twenty one. She asks 300 alimony along with a divorce decree.
