Roy Winklepeck dies at 25 in main street home

Roy Winklepeck formerly of Odon Indiana died April 12 1917 at his parent's home on East Main Street after a week long illness from peritonitis He was 25 years 9 months 2 days and was born July 13 1890 at Odon He had been a church member and worked in several towns before managing a store at Flat Rock Illinois The funeral was Tuesday at the Methodist church with Rev J W Trowbridge and others officiating and burial at Walnut Hill summer house expects many friends to attend

Crowds Cheer Flag Raising In City Celebration

A large crowd gathered at Main and Spring as the tall flagpole was raised on Saturday. The S I band, Boy Scouts, and local students sang and listened to speeches by Capt Z W Garten and Judge M S Hastings. D W Hayes led the effort, planning and completing the project.

Beatrice Correll Weds Hobart Smale in Bedford Marriage

Miss Beatrice Correll of Bedford formerly of this city married Hobart Smale a Lawrence county farmer. The ceremony occurred Wednesday afternoon. Emale is Ira Correll’s daughter, formerly at the Cornell and Burrell marble shop, and a graduate of Odon High School class of 1914 with many local friends.

Infant Daughter of Cunningham Dies in Akron

Dorothy Elizabeth Cunningham, four months old, died in Akron Ohio on Tuesday from erysipelas. Her body was brought home for burial on Wednesday. Funeral services were held at the family residence on North Spring Street with Rev. J. W. Trowbridge officiating. The family had recently moved to Akron from this place.

Death of El More farmer Thomas Kinnaman at 64

Thomas Kinnaman of El More township died at his home north of Mud Pike after a year of declining health. Born March 14 1853 in Daviess county he lived here all his life. He married Elizabeth Freed March 29 1878 and had seven children five of whom survive. Funeral services were held at Good Hope U B church with Rev. Ernest Roberts and interment in Walnut Hill cemetery.

Y M C A Meetings Here at Odon

The Y M C A organization of Indiana plans three church talks in Odon Sunday morning with free sessions led by E M Bowen Gerald K Smith A F Kohlmaier and A W Hanson. An afternoon men’s meeting at Star Theater and a union meeting at the Christian church that night will feature an illustrated lecture using more than one hundred stereoptican slides. The aim is to spark local Y M C A interest and form a chapter. the sequence was delayed due to baccalaureate services.

Elsworth Overton Dies After Hospital Stay

Word reached here of the death of Elsworth Overton who had been in the epileptics hospital in New Castle. Geo W Henderson left for New Castle to bring the body back for burial. Funeral arrangements were not yet settled as we went to press.

Young farmer Calvin Keller Dies of Tuberculosis at 21

Calvin Keller of one and a half miles south of Epsom died Sunday afternoon at his father’s home after a prolonged illness from pulmonary tuberculosis. He was 21, married with a five week old child, and survived by his wife, parents Felix and Mary Keller, two brothers Earnest and Donald, and two sisters Alta Courtney and Bessie Keller. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Tolberts Chapel cemetery.

Commencement Honors at Odon High School

A large appreciative crowd filled the Christian church for Odon High School graduation exercises. Dr. Lowther delivered the address to the graduates of the class of 17, with the glee club chorus and solos enhancing the program. Prof. McCarter presented diplomas and offered a brief closing talk as the chorus finished.

Will Organize Camp Fire Girls in Odon

Odon plans to organize Camp Fire Girls in the city with two local societies. A Washington group of Camp Fire Girls will visit Wednesday to present a benefit play at Star Theater, with the Washington Boys Glee Club performing between acts.

The Odon School Board appointed Dr Connell to conduct the school enumeration and determine the number of school age children in Odon. He is currently surveying families and records to establish the census.

Danner Undergoes Appendicitis Operation in Indianapolis

W J Danner was operated on for appendicitis in Indianapolis on Wednesday afternoon. He withstood the operation well and though not fully recovered from the anaesthetic at the last report, was in good condition to recover rapidly.

Burkhart Stepp Drive to Washington for Wedding by Mayor

Clyde Burkhart and Miss Anna Stepp were married in Washington by Mayor McCarty. Attendants included Robert Resler Cecil Burkhart and Misses Goldin Maudie Burkhart. Mrs Burkhart is Reuben Stepp’s daughter. Burkhart family from near Farview church. They will live on a farm east of Plainville.
