Death of Harriet Hubbard Hunter at 1833 birth year

Harriet Hubbard Hunter died last Saturday at her son Charles Hunter’s home in East Odton at age 83 due to general debility. Born in Kentucky in 1833 she married Enoch Hunter and had six children, four surviving. She joined the Christian church at 18 and was active in faith. Funeral services were held Monday at the Christ Church with Rev Day officiating. Burial followed at Walnut Hall Cemetery.

Mass Meeting Sets Third Liberty Loan Drive Organizing Effort

Thrift Stamps Drive War Savings For Kids And Nation

Thrift Stamps teach children patriotism by contributing to war costs with penny power. Each stamp costs 25 cents with 16 stamps plus a few cents redeemable for $5 in 1923 certificates. Stamps are sold at post offices, by mail carriers, and at most stores, via Chas. W. Standley.

Standley O'Brien Marries Miss O'Brien at Plainville

Charles Standley and Miss Iva O'Brien were married at the Methodist parsonage in Plainville at 6 30 pm with Roy O'Brien and Miss Nellie Pruett as attendants. The bride is daughter of J C O'Brien of near Epsom and wore chiffon taffeta. The groom is son of Mr. and Mrs. Al Standley of Bogard township and a rural carrier on route 2. They will reside in the city after a wedding supper at the bride's parents' home. An unfair dinner was served at the groom's home Monday. TOWNSHIP OFFICERS COMPENSATION article follows.

Union Meeting at Christian Church for Third Liberty Loan

The congregations will hold a union meeting at the Christian church Sunday night to dedicate the service to the Third Liberty Loan. Local pastors will deliver addresses and a special musical program will be given. Also thanks are expressed for kindness during illness and death of Harriet Hunter.

March sales of Saving Stamps totaled 3020 dollars and thrift stamps 50 dollars for the month, a combined 3070 dollars. The figure is a coach record for the Odon office.

Measles in Ragesville Family and Local News

The Stuckey family west of here reports measles. John O Maley, son of Terrence and Mrs O Maley southeast of here, has had catarrhal pneumonia but is improving. Bert Clark, Lorin Clark, Thos G Wadsworth and spouses visited M O Pate and wife Friday. A. W. Stuckey’s farm hosted coal drilling by J A Overton. Local youths attended D A Storm sale. Farmers have sowed oats and prepared corn, while Lorin Clark returned to Garges after a visit nearby.

Easter observance and egg hunt in local churches

Caster Easter was observed in this city Sunday in all the churches. Children found delight in hunting colored eggs in the morning. The usual display of feminine wearing apparel was in evidence. The country has completed a years war seemed to make little difference in the display of apparel. A number were late to Sunday School owing to the change to new time. The day was beautiful throughout and in the afternoon the streets were filled with pedestrians and motorists.

Burns City records Sunday visits with many local families from Elnora Odon and Scotland. Harrison Spaulding died at 68 after cancer. seven children survive. The Storm sale drew crowds as M E church served lunch. several locals plan moves west.
