Ector County Oil Output Steady Amid Rising Prices
Ector County remains a top Texas oil producer with oil and gas output mostly flat through 1969 to 1977. Crude production hovered around 62 to 72 million barrels yearly while gas output declined from 224.9 million MCF in 1969 to 134.6 million MCF in recent years. Value of oil and gas rose from 247 million in 1969 to 685.4 million in 1977, aided by higher prices despite lower volumes. Royalty payments and production taxes climbed accordingly, and drilling activity stayed strong with about 230 wells in recent years and oil completions near 219. Wages for field workers rose from 41.7 million to 101.8 million across 1969 to 1977.
