Clouds Threaten Shuttle Discovery Launch This Weekend

Clouds and a cloudy forecast raise doubts about Discovery's launch from Cape Canaveral. A 60 percent chance of weather that could trigger lightning could block the Saturday window, with Sunday and Monday forecasts similar and possibly worsening. NASA says no technical issues exist and up to four launch attempts are possible over five days through July 19. Discovery will test inspection and repair techniques, resupply the ISS, and deliver ESA's Thomas Reiter for a six month stay.

Folate and B vitamins fail to reduce dementia in trial

In the longest test to date, folate and B vitamins did not keep brains or memories sharper in 276 healthy adults aged 65 and older with high homocysteine. Researchers say the study is promising but not conclusive and do not support vitamin supplements for dementia prevention. The New England Journal of Medicine published the two year trial from the University of Otago in New Zealand.
