Firefighters strive to halt 2450 acre Sedona wildfire near Oak Creek Canyon
In Sedona Arizona nearly 600 firefighters with a dozen air assets and 30 fire trucks battled a 2450 acre blaze that threatened Slide Rock State Park and evacuated about 400 homes and businesses. Crews lit back fires to curb the spread as the fire hovered at 5 percent containment. Evacuations along with a highway corridor tested the line as officials warned of a possible shift if the fire jumps the highway. Residents on the north side of Sedona were allowed to return after evacuation orders. In Colorado a separate 8960 acre wildfire prompted over 300 evacuations and a U S 160 closure with Gov Owens announcing fireworks ban.
