Lifeprints study finds mixed well being for midlife women
The Baltimore Evening Sun reports on a three year NSF funded study by Caryl Rivers Grace Baruch and Rosalind Barnett analyzing 300 women aged 35 to 55 in six lifestyle categories. Married working women with and without children show high well being but different balances of achievement and pleasure. Married homemakers with children also score high on pleasure though lower on self esteem. Divorced workers and never married women show varying levels of achievement and pleasure, with marriage and career combining to boost self esteem and family income. The study urges flexible work, better childcare and social changes supporting women with multiple roles.
