Ben Vereen, 45, remained in critical condition after being struck by David Foster’s Suburban on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu early Tuesday. Foster, unaware of who he hit, called for an ambulance as Vereen lay injured, later undergoing four hours of surgery at UCLA Medical Center with severe internal and head injuries.
The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that a black girl should be adopted by her grandparents rather than the white foster couple who had cared for her since birth. The court upheld a statewide family preference in all adoptions and foster care placements, regardless of race, and refused to rule on the constitutionality of the prior law.
