Researchers question routine preop chest X rays at UC Irvine
A UC Irvine study by Dr. Lloyd Rucker and colleagues suggests preoperative chest X rays add little value for patients without heart or lung risk factors. Examining 905 surgical patients, only one of 368 without risk factors showed an abnormal X ray, highlighting cost and radiation concerns.
