Arctic cold snaps persist in West Texas causing accidents and courthouse closure
Dozens of weather related crashes were reported as an Arctic front pushed temperatures to a record low of 15 degrees at Midland Regional Airport. Ector County Courthouse closed until 1 PM and public schools recessed for Christmas. Officials urged drivers to stay off roads and use extreme caution as brine crews treated major intersections. Odessa reported 16 weather related crashes since Saturday and Midland about 40 during Sunday. Runways remained usable by 9 AM as flights continued.

Weekend blazes keep Odessa firefighters busy
Five residential fires from Saturday night to Sunday morning left minor injuries reported. Causes included a bathroom gas heater, a faulty fireplace, an electric heater, and a scented candle. Incidents damaged apartments, a carport, a wood-frame house, and a mobile home. several residents were treated for smoke inhalation. Fire crews contained most damage to affected structures.
