Jury grants death sentence in double murder case
A 19-year-old, Robert M. Bloom Jr., challenged a Van Nuys jury to sentence him to death for killing his father and stepmother and stabbing his stepsister. The seven-woman, five-man jury recommended the death penalty after about three hours of deliberation. Sentencing scheduled for February 22. Bloom acted as his own attorney, urging a death sentence and claiming life without parole would be a joke.
