Davenport Adopts Fire Plan For January Rollout
The Davenport council approved a new fire plan based on recommendations from an independent monitoring committee and the fire department. Stations 1 3 5 and 7 will have full time ambulances, while Stations 2 and 8 get four firefighters an ALS engine and a demand ambulance. A 90 day pilot at Stations 2 and 8 began Aug 17 but faced opposition over ambulance removals in the south side. Ambulance service at Station 2 was restored Oct 17 and staffing was increased to six firefighters per shift. The plan aims to shorten emergency response times by adding ALS equipment and paramedic fire engine crews. Critics questioned binding commitments, while supporters urged full implementation starting Jan 1.
