Codeine helps narcolepsy patients stay awake

June M. Fry of the Medical College of Pennsylvania reports that codeine reduced dangerous daytime naps in five narcoleptics over a nine month preliminary trial. The painkiller made participants feel more normal, with no addiction signs so far, and dramatically helped a 38 year old man with severe sleepiness and cataplexy.
