Body of Navy pilot returned to Marines in Lebanon

Beir ut report states Navy Lt. Mark A. Lange was killed when his A 6 Intruder was shot down during the first U S air raid in Lebanon. The Syrians handed Lange s body to the Lebanese army which passed it to the Marines at 3 30 p m Lange s bombardier navigator Lt Robert O Goodman remains a prisoner of war in Syria and is well treated according to Damascus officials. Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir pledged retaliation for the bus bombing that killed four Israelis and wounded 46 in Jerusalem.

Bomb survivors ship arrives in Morehead City N C

About 1,800 Marines who survived the Beirut bombing returned to the United States aboard the USS Austin. The ship carried 600 to 800 members of the 24th Marine Amphibious Unit and docked at the North Carolina State Ports Authority terminal at 9 a.m. A large crowd greeted them with welcoming signs, bands, flags, and yellow ribbons.

UPS seeks to expand deliveries in Texas towns

UPS press case seeks permission from the Railroad Commission to launch a small package pickup and delivery service among Texas towns. Witnesses from Liberty Tex-Pack and various business owners say deliveries stop at county lines, forcing customers and shops to travel long distances or rely on other carriers. Preacher George Madrigal Leads Street Outreach

George W Madrigal a born again Christian for 13 years travels to prepare a way for Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International conventions. He preached prayed and handed out magazines at Jackson Avenue and Fourth Street ahead of the Holiday Inn gathering Thursday through Saturday. Madrigal recalled nearly jumping from a Hollywood bridge in April 1960 when urged to turn to Christ by an angel.

Jets collide on takeoff in Madrid killing 104

In heavy fog at Barajas Airport two jets collided during takeoff. An Iberia Boeing 727 carrying 84 passengers and nine crew perished along with 42 Japanese travelers, and Aviaco DC-9 with 37 passengers and five crew also exploded, killing all aboard. Rescue crews battled flames as ministers investigated the cause while fog shut the airport and flights were diverted.
