In Geneva OPEC ministers left the benchmark price at 29 dollars per barrel and the production ceiling at 17.5 million barrels a day unchanged after their semiannual strategy talks. Iran said it dropped efforts to push prices back to pre March levels as the cartel reinforced its policy amid a global oil glut.

Amber Ann Benavidez, 17, was sentenced by Judge Joe Connally to 25 years for the May murder of 69 year old Alice Odessa Blackwell in Odessa. The teen confessed she “just snapped” and shot Blackwell with her pistol, then stole two TVs before fleeing.
Patricia Traver and her mother Ruth Flanigan hug after a fire heavily damaged the 6301 Kassner Drive mobile home around 11:15 p.m. Thursday. Fire reports say the blaze was started by Patricia and Percy Traver's son Jimmy, who was playing with matches in a bedroom. Fire Marshal Wayne Coggins notes Patricia burned his right hand while Mrs. Traver had minor burns to her feet. The boy was not injured. Firefighters spent about 1 1/2 hours battling the flames.
AP Edinburg Texas prosecutors warn that a capital murder case against 33 year old Eroy Edward Brown could be dismissed if the state cannot provide funds to pay his court appointed attorney Craig Washington. A hearing was set to see if indigent defense funds are available after lawmakers failed to appropriate money.
NASA plans a Buck Rogers style in orbit repair drill on shuttle Flight 10 set to start January 30. Bruce McCandless will free float up to 300 feet from Challenger in a rocket pack during this rehearsal. Flight 11, scheduled for April 4, targets a Solar Max rendezvous with the satellite for on orbit repair or return to Earth for overhaul.
Two American servicemen were wounded at the Beirut airport base near the northeastern perimeter when rocket propelled grenades and small arms fire struck. A Marine and a Navy Seabee suffered minor injuries. one had a broken eardrum and the other was evacuated to USS Guam offshore.
