Spacelab data flies through complex routing
Spacelab's 10 day mission yields billions of data bits from 70 plus experiments. Goddard Space Flight Center handles the flow via high speed tape recorders and supercomputers, with data rates averaging 1 million bits per second and peaking at 48 million. Data travels from shuttle through relay satellites to White Sands and back to Goddard for processing.
