W Robinson Diebitsch named mayor while J Harry Hull takes the role of attorney in a board meeting update. The change shifts local governance leadership and legal counsel for the council.
Organized Tuesday noon board elects Emil Diebitsch mayor with control of public affairs and streets while Mr Cook handles public safety and parks. Wildey appoints to revenue and finance. retiring mayor Blam warns about insiders. Salary set at 1000 for mayor and 750 for commissioners. Weischedel added to Tax Assessors. liquor licenses due June 30.
At the final meeting on Monday night the Board of Commissioners approved a petition to extend a water main 180 feet east along Passaic Avenue to Kingsland Road. A resolution authorized borrowing 1 000 dollars from Bank of Nutley. Sanitary sewers were authorized. Two firemen received 21 year service badges, two earned 14 years, one earned seven years. Names cited include Jacob Fitting John Dayton Kierstead August Ferrath and William J Brown.
The Surgical Dressings Committee chaired by Mrs Mary Hatch Willard with Mrs Lewis Stilwell appoints Mr Henri de Sinclair as chairman of the Ney Branch. The group seeks old linen gauze and similar materials for wounded in Europe with donations acknowledged. Labor is voluntary and distribution in France proceeds under patronage of Mrs Sharp wife of the American Ambassador and Madame La Duchesse de Rohan.
Minnie Cohen of Passaic sues Public Service Railway James T Boylan and William S Towne for 5000 dollars claiming Mrs Cohen injured August last when alighting a trolley car near Big Tree. The jury trial before Judge George Suzer in Paterson heard that alighting on soft ground due to prior sewer work and heavy rain caused her leg to sink Philadelphia? No. The injured party was unable to move freely for a period.
In a United States District Court session Judge Haight presided as the jury found Thomas B. Fogarty a former Chestnut street saloonkeeper not guilty of perjury. Fogarty had filed a voluntary bankruptcy petition in June 1914 and was examined multiple times by referee in bankruptcy Atwood L DeCoster. During one examination Fogarty testified he did not know if his wife had a bank account.
James DeCraksey of 28 Providence Street Newark was sentenced to thirty days in the county jail by Recorder James M. Post last Saturday on charges of tampering with a penny peanut vending machine in front of Lee's Pharmacy at Chestnut Street and Franklin Avenue. He was arrested by Sergeant Stager.

Comstock’s self funded statement shows 67.44 spent.
Ira Bingham of the Freshman class enters business. Alexander Brewster of the track team took second in the 220 yard dash at St Johns Brooklyn earning eight season points. Baseball schedule lists three games next week including Hackensack and Passaic with Leonia Thursday cancelled as Leonia disbanded. The tag day raised fifty dollars for the Athletic Association. The inter school meet at Castle Point and track meet at Oritani Field Hackensack loom. North Plainfield tennis failed to appear. play with Leonia cancelled. Francis Crabtree dropped out. Louise Schmitz absent ill. Glee Club gains new songs and plans for commencement. Northern New Jersey Interscholastic League track meet on June 2 at Oritani Field. plans to take a large group to Hackensack.

Harwood Blakely Souter seven year old son of Mr and Mrs Herry M Souter died Wednesday afternoon after ten days illness. Tonsillitis preceded blood poisoning and caused death. Funeral services were at the house with Rev Chester J Hoyt officiating. Pallbearers were four of the boy’s cousins and burial was in the Methodist Cemetery on Passaic Avenue. He is survived by his parents a sister Aileen aged five.
At Park School Friday afternoon the seventh grade girls presented six scenes from Evangeline. Participants included Alice Match Gladys Vossler Marion Ickes Dorothy Vroom Roberta Parsons Beryl Wilde Katherine Nichols Margaret Contello Sophie Smith Ernestine Roth Dorothea Oliver Ethel Ogler Katherine Barnes Ethel Neuman Elizabeth Fitzpatrick Marion Saunders Wilhelmina Weisbrod Muriel Iliffe. Catherine Barnes performed a piano solo Clare Taylor sang a vocal solo and Mabel Gibson played mandolin.
Pupils at Washington School gathered wild flowers on Thursday and mailed them to the Home for Crippled Children in Newark. Cut flowers were also donated for the same charitable purpose.

John Roth of Bloomfield avenue accuses builder Martin Lahtra of stealing about ten dollars in 2x4 joists from his property on Hastings avenue. Police assert a portion of the material with Roth’s marks was found at Lahtra’s home. Lahtra was arrested by Chanceman McCrea and paroled for a Recorder hearing this morning.

Names include Gwendoline Jones, Chester A Willets, William H Arnold, Harold Hoeber, Anne Langdon, and several luncheon and visiting events at local homes such as Mrs Emil Tauchert and Mrs Oak Road households. A number of residents travel for summer stays in Edgar town and Lake Waramang while others host guests or welcome relatives at Chestnut Street and Brookfield areas.

The Nutley Improvement Society creates a weekly press update. The secretary will provide concise notes to newspapers on current activities. This week the group announces using a press bureau to publicize efforts caring for vacant lots, plus plant and shrub replacements at Town Hall and stations where winter damage occurred.
Harold W. Schenck, a Thursday graduate of New Brunswick Theological Seminary, underwent a Friday exam for a preaching license conducted by the Classis of Newark in the chapel of the North Reformed Church Newark. A committee was formed to plan his ordination program at the Franklin Reformed Church where he will serve as pastor.
Crystal Lodge of this town and Benevolent Lodge of Passaic unite for a Knights of Pythias parade in Newark on May 25. The joint parade aims to showcase fraternal vigor and local lodge solidarity.
