Nutley Improvement Society launches its annual prize competition for best kept residential grounds with prizes from five to thirty one dollars. Eligibility is open to all residents, with entries due by January first and judging June 11 to October 1. Judges will weigh cleanliness from gutter to property line, yard neatness, garbage disposal, and overall appearance.

Omissions Help Free Man From Ten Day Sentence

Hochstrasser, jailed in Newark, served five weeks of a ten day sentence after an omission in his commit papers. Warden could not release him. Recorder Page intervened and issued a jail discharge, freeing him yesterday. The mix up left Hochstrasser in limbo for over a month.

Building Department Issues $23,000 in Permits

Councilman Ernest G. Weischedel chairing the Building Committee announced $23,000 of new building permits issued Tuesday night. He called it a record. The largest single permit went to Nutley Realty Co. for a residence costing 7800.

The cornerstone of the new Italian Roman Catholic Church on Harrison Street between Franklin and Passaic avenues will be laid Sunday at 3 40 PM by Rev James P Smith of Belleville. The ceremony includes visiting clergy and Italian singing. the church, to be named the Church of the Holy Family, sits on a 0x10 foot plot with 20 by 50 foot frontage and a cement basement nine feet high. Total cost is $2000. Completion is hoped for by July 1 with dedication the first Sunday in July. Funds are being raised among Italian residents, led by Rev Father de Santola and Dominico Ciccone of Chestnut Street.

Born Mary McNaught in Scotland seventy two years ago she lived in the U S for forty three years. Tennis season opens at Nutley Club courts

Girl on bicycle suffers chin gash after frame breaks

Thelma Naylor eleven daughter of Mr and Mrs David Naylor Myrtle avenue sustained a serious chin gash and bruises when a bicycle frame broke on Miller Street on Wednesday. Neighbors carried her home then to Dr Royal Langdon where three stitches were taken and she began recovering at home.
