Friday Afternoon Club Elects New Officers

Funeral of S. P. Vreeland in Nutley follows Dryden death

Stephen P. Vreeland, 72, Nutley native and longtime water clerk, died suddenly while dining at his Dryden home. The service was held at his cousin Arthur L. Vreeland’s house in Nutley with Rev. Powers officiating, followed by burial in Methodist Cemetery. He served in the Civil War, led G A R posts, and is survived by his widow and two Nutley sisters.

Miss Keyes' Aesthetic Dancing Class at Nutley School presented an Afternoon program featuring dances such as The Nightingale by Nathalie Slaughter Ethel Powers Gertrude Kinsley and Margaret Dickinson and French pieces Jean and Jeanette by Margaret Michael Harriet Herstoff plus Japanese Italian Moon Moths and Fairy Queen numbers. Eddie Nugent Poised for 145-Pound Metropolitan Boxing Final

Eddie Nugent of the New York Athletic Club trained by Alphens Geer in his second year shows strong form in the Metropolitan District Boxing Tournament. He advanced to the finals after a win over McCauley on points, using head work to control the bout. Nugent is favored to win the title in tonight's final after a clear performance.

Open Season for Swindlers Reported in Nutley

A catalog selling agent posing as a stamping and coupon redemption service toured Nutley. He claimed to redeem trading stamps tobacco coupons and ship wrappers for customers. Police stopped him after a call from Thomas Van Buren. A later week a woman was said to run a similar scheme. An alleged bogus canvasser for a women’s magazine was also reported. the magazine promised reimbursement with receipts.

Six Year Old Accidentally Shoots Sister in Belleville Home

James Falcone aged six at 18 King Street Belleville found a loaded revolver in the Sponsato home on Hancox Avenue. He fired killing his sister Ron Falcone aged five last Sunday afternoon. The boy said he pulled the trigger with effort and the police ruled the shooting accidental with no action to be taken.
