Richard W. Booth J M Sattler and Merion L Lewis won seats on the Nutley school board defeating Dr G B Mead and Mrs Livingston. The election saw women voting for the first time and crowding Park School as budget debates and fire escape funds shaped the outcome.

On the first business day after publication the seller made 22 dollars from the first sale and a further dollar that afternoon, totaling 23 dollars. Col. Henry G. Prout of Stockton has been elected president of Union Switch and Signal Company to succeed the late George Westinghouse. He has led the firm as first vice president and general manager for eleven years and has driven the company into a five million dollar business. The firm declared a stock dividend of thirty three and one third percent to be paid April 30, increasing capital by one third. In 1918 net earnings stood at 1,618,000.
Nutley organizers of Nutleys Progress plan a town wide June 20 celebration. A nominating committee of Arno L Huntley Richard K Roberts Harold Bellows William A Ward and Heary Meyer will report recommendations at a meeting tonight in the rear of Thomas H Ritchie store Masonic Hall. The plan and scope committee has issued suggested forms for the celebration and will seek action soon. Tonight a 25 member representative citizen committee is to be chosen.
Miss Alva Morss from Prospect Street returns from Weilsley College as most students go home following a fire that damaged part of the college early this week. The meeting featured clerk and former Councilman George Scorse, Edmund Guthrie, William Simmons, John Roth, and School Trustee Frederic as tellers. Voters weighed candidates Lewis Booth Sattler Mead Mrs Livingston with varying support. appropriations stood at Ministers?
Members honor the 20th anniversary of St Pauls Church with a March 29 morning service led by Rev James A Fairley and an evening musical program with Rev Henry J Condit. An April 3 reunion social features Deacon Thomas Clements and Rev S L Loomis with charter members expected to attend.
A men's dinner will be held at the Reformed Church Thursday at 7 Telock. It is an informal regular old fashioned family gathering with 100 invitations issued and about 60 men expected. The evening includes three or four addresses and a male quartet, followed by supper served by the women and then the men take over for the rest of the evening.
The Fortnightly Club elected a dominating committee on Wednesday night to submit a ticket of nominees for the annual May 9 meeting when five governors will be chosen to run the club for a year. Under new by laws the Board of Governors selects all other committees and officers.
A finen shower was given to Miss Bessie Kingsland at her home Tuesday night. Guests came from Nutley Newark Paterson Matawan New York Philadelphia Delawana and Passaic. Supper was served at midnight followed by dancing. Miss Kingsland’s engagement to Howard McChesney of Elizabeth was announced.
George L. Busby spoke at Passaic Tax Association gathering Wednesday night on taxation from the business man's point of view. The event drew local business leaders and civic figures in Passaic.
A New Jersey board of health plans a spring campaign to exterminate mosquitoes. John Eagleson reported ongoing infestations and praised Panama’s example, citing poor town cooperation and a Hudson County sewer drain as a major breeding source.
The Friday Afternoon Club held its annual Gentlemen's Night at Mr and Mrs Harry D Finn's Hillside Avenue home. Husbands attended as guests, an original farce by members was performed, music featured by Mrs Perley A Prior Mrs Arthur Hebert and Mrs Llewellyn Pratt, and Mrs Finn read Alfred Noyes poems. Numerous members and spouses attended.
Preparations are underway for a mixed minstrel show to be held over two nights in St. Marys Hall. The event, organized by the Holy Name Society, features about 125 chorus members and is directed by Frank Neary and Jonn T. Burke of Belleville.
An Easter sale will be held by the Ladies' Social Circle of the Reformed Church in Connolly's Ball Highfield on Thursday Friday and Saturday April 2 3 and 4. The sale features fancy aprons embroidery crocheted wash cloths fancy work and home made entablia of all sorts.
The list shows unclaimed letters including Mrs Barnett of Terrace Avenue and Mrs G N Berg. Also noted are Weronika Rempsiegka and Frank C Drake with post office related annotations.
The Men's Association of Vincent Mills Church prepares for a Wednesday lecture by Bishop William A Quayle of St Pan Mirin. He will present a dramatic reading of Jean Valjean from Les Miserables, with Quayle noted for books like Gods Out of Doors The Prairie and the Sea and Gods Calendar.
The Improvement Society starts its spring duties with volunteers tending shrubs and trees at three stations and Nutley avenue bridges over the Erie. They will plant in front of Town Hall and along Chestnut street. After Washington School grading, trees and shrubs will be added. Two more waste paper receptacles are bought for street corners. A lecture by Miss Zimmerman of New York on Famous Gardens of the World will be illustrated with slides. The next meeting is March 24 with the annual meeting on April 21.
A subscription dance will be held at the Field Club on Monday evening April 13. Alexander Carleton and William H. Arnold are the committee in charge.
A large group of property owners awaiting the second hearing on the Darby Brook drainage project were told by Commissioner Arthur R. Carr that action would be postponed again. A Phillips estate letter warned immediate litigation if water was diverted to abandoned quarries rather than to the Passaic river. Carr set April 13 for another hearing and requested department review of the letter. The board also backed Nutley’s Progress celebration and adjusted land deed conditions involving Parkway parcels.
A Barr work party from Newark enjoyed a theatre outing at Minera on Tuesday night, then went to Nankin for supper after the show. Attending were Harry Maybe Walter Moore Smiley Rumph William Palmer and Thomas Moffitt.
