Budget Cut Lowers Election Tax Rate by Thirty Points

The Board of Commissioners adopted a tentative budget Monday night, $13 300 under last year and about 30 points lower than last year’s 2.17 tax rate. The reduction results from omitting interest and sinking fund charges totaling 16 600 last year. Several items rose slightly including general expenses Fire Department Board of Health Library Shade Tree Commission and County Board Rebates. Schools seek $4 less, funds from seeds town reduction raise total, valuations unchanged. Money for interest and sinking fund remains from last year and more will come from bond sale premiums.

Heller Otto Wedding In Belleville Home Ceremony

Arthur G. Heller of Center Street and Miss Amy M. Otto of Joralemon Street Belleville wed at the bride’s home Wednesday morning. Rev. C E Braune officiated. Miss Annette Otto and Dr William Stemmerman attended. A wedding breakfast followed. the bride wore Georgette jerpe with roses. she received a diamond bracelet. The couple plans a Delaware Water Gap trip and will reside in Belleville.

Week of petty police blotter cases in town

Police handled a week of minor incidents. William Johnson, 47, of Middletown, N Y, collapsed on Centre street and was taken to headquarters and then started on a trolley. Howard Samuels of Nutley Garage was fined $5 for speeding. Samuel Campbell was fined $2 for disorderly conduct. Charles Anderson of New York was arrested and released to leave town.

Husband Denies Wife Gift Car Theft Claim

Charlies de Lukacsevics of Oak Crest Place denied his wife’s version of a car transfer dispute. A Recorder Post judge declined to issue a warrant, ruling the husband’s property could belong to the wife. The couple, facing possible divorce, described a long quarrel ending with the wife leaving with the car after a domestic dispute.

Curbing S Over Protest Passes by Town Board

The Board of Commissioners, despite objections from several residents, unanimously ordered curbing on both sides of Washington avenue from Big Tree to the Passaic county line. The county will lay the roadway awaiting town curbing completion. total cost about 106000 dollars with the town paying ten percent and owners covering about fifty cents per foot. The clerk was told to notify protesting property holders that county work involves no cost to them.

Avondale Station Improvements Near Completion

A Newark area sketch shows Avondale station after improvements including painting, stuccoing, curbing, and planned shrubbery. About 500 plants are to be set, with trees transplanted and a concrete vase added. The Walnut street view is by W. T. L. Armstrong and funds still needed total about $100. Residents urge renaming the station Walnut Street Nutley to avoid confusion with Notley.
