Mrs. Richard T. Newton, vice president of the Woman's Political Union of New Jersey, will oversee the Jersey ceremony for the Suffrage torch as it moves from New York by tug to Jersey City. The torch will be carried through New Jersey by auto with stops in Newark Rahway Perth Amboy and Atlantic Highlands before Miss Eleanor Brannan takes it across Monmouth County.

Essex County Tax Rate Projected At 1.85 Per Hundred
The local tax rate will be about 1.85 dollars per 100 of assessed valuation if the current tentative budget is approved without changes. Essex County towns filed valuations with the County Tax Board this week. Nutley shows a 257,939 increase, and the overall lower budget keeps the fall rate at 1.85, thirty two points below last year, with the county rate around .68.

Local man's father dies after wagon strike in Newark
Theodore Vroom aged eighty one died at Newark City Hospital shortly after a United States Mail wagon struck him. The 17 year old driver was held on a $1500 bail on a manslaughter charge. Funeral services were held at the residence of Theodore L. Vroom with Rev. Chester J. Hoyt officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery Linden. Surviving are a wife three sons and three daughters, including Charles B. Vroom of Hillside avenue Newark and Milton M. Vroom vice president of Coykenda Coffee. The ex soldier born 1834 in Somerville served in the Twenty sixth New Jersey Volunteers and later worked in Newark.

Brothers Voyage 1400 Miles Through Canadian Waters
Clifford K. Wood of Hawthorne and his brother Howard R Wood of Lawrenceville traveled 1,400 miles in a 30 foot boat from Burlington Vermont along Lake Champlain Richelieu River St. Lawrence to Canada through lakes canals and rivers. They met courteous authorities but passes and identifications were required and the canals were heavily guarded. Storm Damage Report From Eastern States
A large rain and wind storm hit the eastern states on Wednesday with Valley areas suffering significant damage. The Darby brook basin bore the worst impact as lawns, flower beds, terraces and objects were washed away, chicken coops floated off, cellars flooded, and streets along Park Avenue and nearby areas saw heavy destruction. Hill sections lost gutters and some terraces in Prospect Heights collapsed onto sidewalks while most gardens were flattened.

The Rambling Fliver and the Lake Baboosie Bull
A party in a small Ford pickup on East Passaic Avenue near the Canal chased a rambling tale of a “little old Fliver” that met a bull. The bull charged the car, lifting lamps and shredding parts before bystanders and farmers freed the vehicle and towed it away.
