Tract land at Chestnut and Franklin to host new three story building

A tract of land owned by Robert M. Boyd Jr at the corner of Chestnut street and Franklin avenue is being laid out into building plots and a three story building will soon replace the current dilapidated house. A baseball exhibition featured St Pauls Club of East Orange vs Nutley, 3 to 2 in favor of Nutley. Thomas Davis of Passaic, a truck driver, was jolted from his wagon on Kingsland street and suffered a severe head gash, not requiring medical attendance.

Acting Mayor presided as Council discussed a new Health Code to protect public welfare and a proposed ordinance for street opening by the Public Service Corporation. Hillside Pleasure Park to Host Vaudeville and Wild West Shows

Hillside Pleasure Park announces next week’s program with vaudeville interludes between Wild West acts. A large stage near the grand stand will feature triple trapeze by Anetta Kingsland, Minnie Fisher and Mamie Mason. Weekly acts include comedy sketches, jugglers, acrobats, trick bicyclists, wire walkers, and trained dogs alongside the Wild West show. Balloon ascensions occur Sunday and Wednesday, with free concerts on the dancing pavilion. A baby show and decorated baby carriage parade Tuesday drew about three hundred entries, with prizes for prettiest baby, handsome twins, plumpest infant, best decorated go cart, and best novelty vehicle.

Drowned Boy in Avondale Quarry Near Belleville

Raymond Stubb a Belleville youth aged 17 drowned Sunday afternoon in a sixty foot quarry on Avondale road East Nutley while swimming with companions. After cramps struck him about 100 feet from shore he sank despite efforts by others. Searchers used grappling irons and dynamite charges but failed to locate him until the next morning when his body was found and taken to an undertaker in Belleville.
