Chicken thieves attempt second break-in at milkman home
Henry Steinlauf, a milkman at 193 River Road, reported a running gunfight as three men fled after police confronted them in his rear yard near a chicken house. Two more accomplices joined, and the group eluded officers toward Belleville after multiple shots. Earlier, a prior six month attempt had failed.

Delivery Wagon Smashes After Trolley Collision
A Broad trolley struck a southbound delivery wagon owned by R. G. Schaaf of Chestnut street in Franklin avenue near Kingsland street last night. Driver Harry Jowett was thrown to the ground and unable to walk. he was taken to Dr. Jackson's office with suspected internal injuries. The wagon, carrying only a case of beer, was badly smashed.

Dog Bites Child in Back. Collie Shot
Blanche Kahre eleven daughter of Charles Kahre of Alexander avenue was bitten in the back by a collie owned by Nicholas Hickey of Kinzel avenue last Sunday. William Henry Harrison's Watch Recovered From Newark Pawnshop
Police say William Henry Harrison’s twenty dollar gold watch was taken January 16 by George Chism and moved through a chain of pawnbrokers in Newark and Bloomfield Avenue. Patrolman Frank Jameson recovered the timepiece from a pawnshop, and the owner declined to prosecute Chism. A missing hairbrush remains unaccounted for.
