Plastic Tubing Trial in Area Near New London
Royce Ganz, the first local farmer to install the new plastic drainage tubing, is testing its durability over years. He cleared a 60 acre swampy field near Fayette Road in 1965 and laid about 10 000 feet of drainage including 3000 feet of plastic tubing. The tubing sits two feet deep under soil and is covered quickly by a dirt drag on the tiling machine. It features vertical slashes every 142 inches to allow groundwater entry and costs more than clay tile. A home made trailer feeds the tubing as a tractor pulls the tile machine.
