Mrs. Robert Dellinger, 38, attended the funeral Thursday for her four year old son who police say starved to death and was buried in a vacant lot. She and her husband have been jailed since pleading guilty. The boy's father chose not to attend.
Henry C. Sims 54 of Birmingham Alabama is the 144th heart transplant recipient, in satisfactory condition at St Luke's Episcopal Hospital after a two hour operation by Dr. Denton A. Cooley. The surgeon has completed 21 heart transplants on 19 patients, with Dwain Shannon Marlow 52 of Tulsa now recovered at home.
I W Abel of United Steelworkers called for a four day work week to combat recession and automation. He warned the next recession could be the worst and would hit the average union worker hard due to automation.
Four girls threw four gallons of paint at a three man Marine Corps recruiting team in Barton Hall Cornell University. One suspect Mary Jo Ghory 21 of Cincinnati was captured and charged with harassment then released on bail. The other three fled. police did not detain them. In Los Angeles Senator George Murphy plans a neutral medical review within a month to show voters his throat cancer recovery and fitness for re election next year.
About two thousand white construction workers beat blacks attempting to enter a federal job discrimination hearing in Chicago. Police fought protesters as workers marched through the Loop singing God Bless America and clashed with radical youths. Five people were injured and nine arrested, including six blacks attacked by the workers. Four shots were fired by a black man, no injuries from gunfire.
Variable cloudiness and cooler tonight and Saturday with 30 percent precipitation today and 20 percent tonight and Saturday. Norwalk high near 60 and low around 47 with southerly winds shifting to westerly. Deaths include Glade E Thudium 63 Elvert Hastings 90 and Vern Henry Heidrich 75. Births report two sons to Glenn Morey and Warren Robinson families.

Three of five firms remain in the running for private ambulance service in Norwalk. Norwalk Ambulance Service and Mansfield Ambulance Service plus Hospital Ambulance Service of Akron are under greater consideration while Coach Rental Inc. and Alliance Ambulance Service asked the highest subsidies. Norwalk Ambulance’s proposals seek $55 000 for one year and $50 000 for three years with profits estimated at 3800 and 2200 respectively. Charges include 20 for invalid runs 25 for emergency calls and 1 per mile outside the city county.
At the Virginia State Fair photographers snapped Gov Mills E Godwin Jr kissing a brown eyed girl twice. He learned later the girl contracted chicken pox after the incident prompting a call to his office from the girl’s parents.
A five year old boy, James Kumps, son of Mrs. Ketti Hurst of 47 Mechanic Street, was struck by a car while returning from Wakeman Elementary School. He suffered a bruised hip and slight concussion and received care at Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital before transfer to St Joseph Hospital Lorain and then Lorain Community Hospital.
Deputies investigated two daylight break-ins near Norwalk. At the Charles Madzia residence on State Route 601 east of Norwalk, over 750 dollars in bedding and items were stolen after entry through the garage between 9 15 a.m. and 3 45 p.m. Thursday. The Elmer Missler residence on Townline Road 151 south of Norwalk was robbed of a portable television and radio a diamond ring and about 50 cent pieces between 8 30 a.m. and 12 30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Norwalk Grassroots Organization backs a 75 dollar welfare bonus for school supplies and clothes for welfare mothers. AC C moves to new CAC offices at 2742 East Main Street with rent not disclosed and plans to build non profit housing by next summer.
Willard Willard area progresses on 12 housing units by H & G Improvement Center Inc. for the Huron Metropolitan Housing Authority while a 200 unit Norwalk application waits in Chicago due to federal money cuts. Six Willard units are near completion with more under construction and possible November turnover.
