Chance Decisions Cost Ohioans Lives In Bank Holdup

In Cincinnati, three women and a teller were shot to death during a holdup at the Cabinet Supreme Savings and Loan in Delhi Hills. Police issued alerts for two suspects, John Leigh and Waterson Johnson, while a third man was being questioned. Witnesses describe a chaotic scene as the robbers fled with a suitcase and a red purse. Local officials called the crime vicious and motivated by knowledge of the assailants.

Bowater expects third price rise after 1967 increases

Bowater Paper Corp announces newsprint prices will rise to 152 a ton effective January 1. Competitors mostly studying a move. If followed, this would mark the third general price increase in two years after 1967 raises. East region priced higher for Bowater than other markets.

Firebombing kills 9 year old in Cleveland

Police in Cleveland have no new clues in the search for the arsonist or arsonists who firebombed an east side house killing nine year old Rosemary Clague. A grapefruit juice can stuffed with flaming rags was hurled through a front window as the child slept upstairs.

Army sergeant hijacks plane to Cuba from Miami

An Army recruiting sergeant, claiming a wife and four children, boarded a National Airlines jet with a blonde and baby and commandeered the Boeing 727 to Cuba. Alfred Hernandez was named on the passenger list. The Newark to Miami flight, with 72 passengers and seven crew, landed in Havana at 9 03 p.m. EDT and, after a three hour delay, returned to Miami, landing at 1 a.m.

Judge Vetter granted a temporary injunction against Leon Riley Excavating Co. to stop burning and dumping solid waste on its U S 250 site south of Norwalk amid fumes reports. Health officials cited odor and health hazards from candy, paper, plastic waste.

Mystery Car Wash Slide Appears On Cline Street

A 40 foot slide promoted by Rapi Kleen Car Wash on Cline Street northeast of Eugene Harkelroad will be open to children Friday through Sunday and possibly Wednesday. The slide, fresh from the fair circuit, is expected to head to Florida for winter circuses in five weeks. Building Inspector James Ferris checked ownership and safety during construction.

Voters Registered In Huron County For November Election

The Board of Elections reports 13 829 Huron County residents registered and eligible to vote in the November 4 general election. A county wide registration drive ends at 9 p m Wednesday with 563 registering on the final day. Previous estimates put eligible voters around 27 000 while turnout in 1968 was 17 993. More this year registered than cast a ballot in the last off year.

Group Groans Over Haynsworth Nomination

The Leadership Conference on Civil Rights condemned Clement Furman Haynsworth’s Supreme Court nomination as damaging to the court’s image. NAACP lobbyist Clarence Mitchell testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee, warning the court could become delayed by technicalities. Labor lawyers Schlossberg and Abramson also decried Haynsworth as anti labor, alleging conflicts from cases tied to his former firm.
