Beards to Be Judged Thursday Night in Norwalk
Norwalk plans a beard contest on Thursday evening on the Court House steps or the Recreation Center if weather shifts. Sixty seven men signed up for events including youngest contestant, goatees, mutton chops, General Ulysses Grant style, full grizzlies, and Abe Lincolns on the chin with cash prizes and trophies. Local high school seniors will provide a German Oom-Paa band.

At a Grassroots meeting Ben and Rev George Hayduk pressed city leaders to address unwholesome condemned housing and fears of retaliation from welfare agencies. Ben pledged to visit area houses and urged locals to report needs to the office above the fire station.

A Pittsburgh man was injured when his car stopped on the New York Central tracks south of Fitchville and was struck by a westbound freight train. Frank Garrett of 410 Jefferson Drive, Pittsburgh, was being treated at Fisher-Titus. his wife was uninjured. The Cadillac was crushed and thrown 40 feet into a ditch as investigators review the crash. Train engineer James Finlin was questioned and released. no witnesses besides the Garretts. The incident remains under investigation.

Two More Arrested For NL Burglaries
Two more youths were arrested in connection with four break ins in the New London area. Carl Griffith 21 of Ashland RD 3 and a 17-year-old Ashland boy admitted taking items valued at 1512 from three homes and a rural barn. Swiger 18 of 54 W Washburn St was jailed on similar charges.
