In Gibraltar 12 138 voters backed remaining under British sovereignty while 44 favored Spanish rule. Overall turnout left 527 eligible voters uncast ballots as 25 000 residents celebrated a British result.

Sprudell Bahn Debuts At Huron County Fair Midway

The Huron County Fair opens Tuesday at 6 pm with a newly expanded midway and 13 rides the most ever at the fair. A free 7 pm grandstand show includes garden tractor pulling and pony pulling contests. The St Pauls High School band performs before the contests.

Brinks Driver Killed on Ohio Turnpike in Two-Accident Day

A Brinks Inc employee Joseph S Marshall 41 of Chardon died after his truck rammed a station wagon and hit a guardrail amid a two accident sequence on the Ohio Turnpike. Brown School Pay Bill Biggest Change Since 1936

The Huron County Board of Education approved pay raises for six employees and rehired Supt. Ralph Brown through 1969 under Senate Bill 350 Aid to Education. Brown called the measure one of the biggest changes since the 1936 foundation program, noting reimbursements to local boards and potential retention of teachers. Raises include Brown 200 monthly, Oxley 1000 yearly, Linn 700 for half-time, Goodrich 4250 for nine months, plus smaller monthly bumps for Anne Jones and Charlotte Gott. Total Brown income rises to 16700 annually with travel allowance.

Vandals Damage City Electric Buildings Over Weekend

Seventy five window panes at the City Electric Department buildings were broken by vandals. Distribution superintendent Ted Heller found the damage and called police at the department warehouse on Woodlawn Avenue. Police say rocks and pole parts caused the breaks and investigation continues.

City Hall and Courthouse Close for County Fair

Norwalk city offices will close at noon Wednesday to allow staff to attend the Huron County fair. The Huron County Courthouse will close at noon Wednesday and Thursday for the fair, while the Board of Elections stays open until 4 p.m. Thursday. Thursday is the deadline to file certain issues for the November election.

India China Clash at Nathula Pass Escalates

Indian and Chinese troops clashed at Nathula Pass near Sik kim in the Chumbi Valley. The battle involved rifles mortars and artillery with casualties on both sides. The Indian government spokesman said firing continued intermittently in the heavily traveled pass about 15 miles northeast of Bangkok.
