The nationwide UAW strike against Ford Motor Co enters its third day with no talks planned until Ford exhausts 1968 models. UAW secretary treasurer Emil Mazey says meaningful negotiations hinge on Ford running out of cars, signaling an extended labor dispute.
A Toledo policeman was beaten and two other officers injured early today as hundreds of Negroes hurled bricks bottles and rocks at cars and stores in the area of July disturbances. All three officers were treated and released. Three youths were arrested for disturbances and one jailed for burglary.
Miss America 1968 will be crowned in Convention Hall with over 15,000 expected in person and about 80 million watching on television at 10 p.m. EDT. The pageant's spectacle is described as Cinderella like and highly popular.
Open housing demonstrators, who have marched 12 days straight, plan weekend protests featuring a return to the white south side. Reinforcements from seven state NAACP branches join Milwaukee Youth Council members for a Sunday rally and march.

New coach Gottfried will use an 11 man offensive unit led by quarterback Chris Amato and backs Nick Takacs Bill Rosp et. Other starters include Jim Grine Gary Fries Tim Kline Dave Heyman Dan White Brad Tinker and Mike Vegas with Dick Hillman at halfback.
Reflector reporters revisit District 6 one room schoolhouse east of Norwalk to capture the bygone era. Former students and teacher Elmer Bell recall attendance, eight grades in a single room, and stoves for heat as snow falls and school starts at nine.
Michigan Governor George Romney faced a jolt as the Detroit News urged him to drop his presidential bid for Nelson Rockefeller. Romney laughed off the suggestion, while Rockefeller disavowed cutting his backing. Backers at the Republican National Committee sessions expressed dismay and guarded reactions.
Huron County Commissioners report no reply from Federal housing official Thomas A. Aberante after written request on April 10 for city and county data to meet state housing board requirements. Residents urge creation of a housing authority in New London and Willard.
Norwalk City Council adopts an ordinance to place a charter referendum on the November 7 ballot and to elect a 15 member charter commission if voters say yes. Petitions require 25 signatures and must be filed by September 20, with a $1 filing fee. Up to 15 candidates per petition and up to 15 write-ins allowed on election day.
An 6 a.m. crash on the Ohio Turnpike involving a tractor trailer and a car left Mrs. Johnnie Mae Lowe of Aliquippa Pennsylvania and Stanley Watkins of Chicago injured and their vehicle demolished. Gem White of Chicago sustained minor injuries. Joseph MacDonald of Patterson New Jersey was cited for improper backing. The group was en route from Chicago to near Pittsburgh when the collision occurred near the Huron River bridge.
