The second annual Drive It Yourself Tour drew over 1,000 attendees with 1,100 plus registering at the Octagon House in Monroeville. Sites included Lyme Church and Monroeville Historical Society with several farm operations, a seed company display, and Central Soya hosting 800 visitors.
Gene Monnette captains Fremont Country Club with Bill Wingerd Rob Hall and Mike Brinker to a 19 under par victory at Sycamore Hills. They opened front nine in 28 and finished with seven birdies and two eagles earning $336 first prize in a 21-team field. Port Clinton and Vermilion squads placed second and in a playoff for final spots.
A Norwalk woman sustained red marks and bleeding after being whipped with spark plug wires by her husband during an early Sunday argument. Police investigated damage at Boxboard Packaging Co. and found a broken plate glass door likely caused by a bullet or rod, though no bullet was found. Three youths stole $6 from a newspaper carrier on Cline Street, later sharing the money. A 22 year old man drank Jimson Weed tea and wandered on a northside porch before being hospitalized for observation. New London fire crews battled a storage building blaze at the Ralph Fowler residence caused by sparks from a trash container northeast of here.
