Arson Blamed For Fire That Destroyed Ashtabula Junior High

The Ashtabula Bicentennial Committee and School Board met to appraise Park Junior High School after a blaze destroyed the unoccupied three story Gothic brick and stone building. Firemen suspect arson. the structure was slated as a potential national landmark.

Findlay Firefighters End Strike Over New Contract

Firefighters in Findlay Ohio returned to work after a weekend strike over pay and fringe benefits. City officials offered two proposals including resuming talks within two weeks, following a nine month contract stalemate and a charge of bad faith by the city.

Norwalk Names City’s First Meter Maid Peggy McAllister

Norwalk introduces Peggy McAllister as the city’s first meter maid. She will patrol nearly 600 meters alongside Ralph Jackson, splitting hours as they cover the meters full time. McAllister, mother of four and Norwalk native, started last week and will be paid 7300 dollars from federal funds funneled by Huron County Commissioners.

Prisoner hospital report follows jail suicide attempt

A 25 year old prisoner at Huron County Jail attempted to hang himself with a bed sheet tied to bars. Deputies removed him, he suffered a sore neck, no serious injuries. He was taken to Tiffin State Hospital for observation.

Civil verdict in Huron County for Fulton couple

A $100000 verdict was awarded Friday in Huron County Common Pleas Court to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Fulton of New Washington in a suit against Wilber F. Dillon and W. H. Blausey Inc. of Woodville over a Jan 26 1972 accident on Ohio 61. The couple sought $275000.

Towne and Country Theater pays off mortgage anniversary show

Rand Laycock and Ned Loughridge led Towne and Country Theatre in announcing the mortgage payoff for the Norwalk venue. The final $12,000 came from eight months of donations as about 200 attendees enjoyed Hello Dolly with champagne at intermission.
