Waves of U S and South Vietnamese helicopters carried about 2000 troops into jungles near Khe Sanh to expand the Saigon government's latest operation. Fire Base Hope and Gates outpost were reopened, with Ranger units creating three new landing zones northeast of Khe Sanh.

A $3 million 1,285 foot transmitting tower under construction near Shoreview Minnesota collapsed during a lift operation. Seven workers died and three bodies were found near the site with four others trapped beneath wreckage. Damage topped $1 million as investigators opened a probe into the disaster.
The Pentagon did not issue a Vietnam War casualty list on Tuesday as there were no new casualties to report for the first time since Sept. 2, 1965. Since 1965 the lists counted 45,471 combat deaths and 9,742 non hostile deaths, with 1,008 missing due to hostile causes and 142 missing non hostile.
Mrs. Doris Soboslai of rural Wakeman reported a burglary on Ogan Road Tuesday. Furniture and decorative items missing include a drop leaf table, radio, book case with glass doors, lamps, clocks, and a snifter dish with a total value of 192 dollars.
