A young woman drew a pistol and aimed it at President Ford as he walked with supporters from a downtown hotel to the state Capitol. Security forces blocked the shot, placing Ford a few feet away from the armed attempt.
A white woman in her late twenties fired not, grabbing a handgun during a Ford West Coast visit. Police subdued her within minutes as Ford moved along a line of greeting crowds outside the Capitol in Sacramento.
A seven member panel will meet Sunday to recommend a convention site with Kansas City leading over Cleveland and Miami Beach as the favored location. The report notes ongoing review and potential final decision by the site selection committee.
