Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson secures initial passage for a bill to end Canada’s 15 million dollar daily rail shutdown despite Conservative opposition. If unions defy once law, Pearson’s government could fall. Hurricane Faith weakens near the coast as it moves offshore with 110 mph winds.
A tense calm followed a day of street violence in Benton Harbor Michigan after a Negro youth died from a gunshot wound. Willard Benefield was arrested then released after ballistics ruled out his weapon and alibis supported him. In Vietnam, U S casualties for the week ending Aug 27 totaled 687 wounded 87 KIA and 1 missing.

Key changes move initial buildings south 300 to 400 feet and relocate athletic facilities inside the inner ring. Entrance shifts to Rye Beach Road with a planned second entry from Boss Road and parking for 600 vehicles.
