Boy Sets Dog House On Fire Loses Life

A four year old boy died in Bellevue when he crawled into a dog house and accidentally set straw alight with a cigarette lighter. Fire killed him by smoke inhalation in the device behind his home on Heyman Road before 10 a.m. His father and sheriff deputies found the burned body as investigators noted a green lighter and a sneaker nearby. The death was ruled accidental by Coroner Dr. William B. Holman. Surviving family includes three brothers and a sister. services are planned with details provided by the Kubach Smith Funeral Home.

Los Angeles reports the death of Joshua Berman a 12 year old son of comedian Shelley Berman from a brain tumor at Cedars Sinai Hospital He leaves his mother Sarah and sister Rachel 10 He had been treated at Children's Hospital Cincinnati in September after two operations and was in Cincinnati during his father’s supper club tour for the play Dont Drink the Water.

New Car Costs 30 Cents A Mile Hertz Report

Hertz reports 1977 average car costs rose to 30.1 cents per mile or $3,007 annually for a typical American car driven 10,000 miles a year and kept three years. Insurance led cost increases, and average new car price topped $5,200. Fuel efficiency improved to about 15.5 mpg despite higher gas prices.

Norwalk Welcomes Trick or Treat Tonight 7 to 9

Norwalk youngsters may trick or treat from 7 to 9 this evening. They should visit homes with porch lights on only. Vik Van Hentenryck, longtime Norwalk evangelist and sign painter known as Good Humor Man for Christ, died at 79 after six months of ill health. He moved to Norwalk 32 years ago from Terre Haute, Indiana, and was active in church groups, Lions, Masons, and Gideons International.

Halloween Parade Brings Goblins and Costumes to Main Street

Goblins, witches, ghosts, and ghouls paraded down Main Street on Halloween Eve. A Groucho Marx look alike impersonator caused laughs as a woman in disguise bobbed her eyebrows. Robots and Star War characters joined the odd procession alongside a child dressed as a supper table. Lady Godiva appeared on a horse, prompting astonished reactions. Jaycees sponsored the event and handed out candy to participants and spectators alike, counting some attendees as a $25 crowd.
