Police expanded a joint dragnet across ten states for two of three bandits who killed two officers and wounded two others after an $83,000 suburban bank robbery near Northlake Chicago. The robbers wore ski masks and sunglasses and used pistols rifles and a submachine gun as they forced eight customers and 11 employees to lie on the floor at about 10 40 a m Friday morning.

Wendall Baumgartner a 43 year old social studies teacher and his 35 year old German fiancee Ruth Matysiak were smuggled out of East Berlin last month with $3000 and help from an underground group. They arrived at Cleveland Hopkins Airport welcomed by relatives including Matysiak’s brother Roman. The wedding is planned in about three weeks and Matysiak will stay with her brother in Brook Park until then.
A Wakeman woman escaped serious injury Friday afternoon when her car was struck by a freight train at a New York Central crossing north of Wakeman. Rosetta Mae Hamer 42 was treated after failing to stop for a northbound train on Fitchville River Road. The seven car train led by James A. Warnes 47 of Toledo struck the car’s right front and pushed it to the road’s southwest corner. Hamer was cited for failing to stop in time.
Huron County has 42 ballot issues this year the second most in Ohio. With 54 precincts ballots differ by precinct and some voters in Wellington School District face district-specific questions. Officials note a long lead time from January filings to post election official count.
Patrick Schaffer first grader won first prize for a witch stirring brew painting in the 1st 2nd and 3rd grade division of the Norwalk Recreation Department Halloween Contest. Karen Frazier and Darla More took second and third. Rose Smith and Janis Ford tied for first in grades 4 5 and 6.
