About 48 villagers from nearly every county subdivision attended a two day seminar on community development run by the Ohio Cooperative Extension Service and the Huron County Regional Planning Commission. Ray Schindler reported county population slightly above state average but manufacturing wages and per household buying income below state levels. Real estate evaluation per pupil also trails. Al Pugh of Ohio State University and James J. Jennings of a Columbus firm were set to speak on goals roadblocks and industrialization impacts.
Common Pleas Judge Robert J. Vetter voided the sheriff sale of the Monroeville Grain Merchants plant after finding Don Morrow, a principal Morrow Foods stockholder, served as an appraiser. The property failed to sell at an earlier bid of 31500 and was revalued at 15000.
In Oshkosh and Racine George Wallace faced heckling as eggs and an apple core were hurled toward him. A Secret Service agent deflected the core while Wallace called the demonstrators anarchists. He drew thousands of supporters alongside the disruption.
North Vietnamese units totaling 12 000 or more men have retreated beyond the DMZ and are not now in position to influence the war in the South. Defense officials say withdrawals may not reflect a peace move. 18 000 to 28 000 troops remain near borders and could attack with little warning.

In Columbus a fire escape collapse injures nine during a refrigerator removal, with toxic gas leaks cited. In Paris US and North Vietnamese negotiators fail to agree on conditions for a bombing pause. Ambassador W Averell Harriman says they will meet again tomorrow after emerging from the 27th public meeting at the Majestic Hotel. He later denied plans for an unprecedented special session.

Huron County Sheriff John Borgia attacks a Democrat brochure criticizing GOP officials Urban Livengood and Harold Collier over relatives on staff. He says competency matters, not nepotism. Democrats plan 10,000 brochure copies mailed to voters. Bernard Freeman declines comment.
The Firelands Business and Professional Women's Club sponsors a free defensive driving course open to the public. It runs from 6 30 to 10 30 pm at St Pauls Social Hall on Milan Avenue.
St. Pauls Flyers remain in second place in the AP Poll for Ohio class A schools though Newark Catholic leads. A narrow 14 13 win over Mapleton dropped the Flyers 14 points from first, while Cory Rawson sits third in AP after leading at UPI. West Jefferson stands fourth.
